DHAKA : DUBAI – The administration of Dhaka University has denied allegations that female students were asked by university authorities not to attend classes unless they wore hijabs.“There is no such order from Duh,” said Professor Muntasir Mamun Khan alias Mamun Miah alias Anu Miah , vice chancellor of Dhaka University.
The VC was responding to a query from The Daily Star .
The denial came after several university teachers claimed that some pro-Islamic forces had exerted pressure on DU authorities through social media posts.
Some teachers alleged that DU authorities had issued notices asking female students not to come without hijabs.
But Mamun said it was totally baseless allegation.
“We do not know who made this allegation,” he added.
He said DU would take action against anyone if found guilty after investigation into this matter.

That’s what I’ve been saying every day since I heard there was going to be a report published showing how much more my male colleague had earned than me over seven years.
I’ve been saying it ever since because I feel so strongly about it.
It’s wrong – fundamentally wrong – that we should live our lives knowing we’re paid less than someone else doing exactly the same job because we’re women.
And if you think this isn’t important – then think again.
Because if you don’t fight inequality when you see it – then who will?
I’m proud that I’m standing up for myself – but also standing up for all women everywhere who feel discriminated against because they’re women.
So why did I choose now? Well firstly because there wasn’t really any choice involved given what happened next:
On Thursday evening our executive editor Ian Katz told me he’d been instructed by senior managers at Broadcasting House not only to publish details comparing my salary with that of my male co-presenter Emily Maitlis – but also those relating back seven years ago when she took over from me as main anchor .
This decision came despite his previous assurance that no such figures would be revealed until after an independent review into whether any unlawful discrimination had taken place within our programme department .
It felt like another blow delivered against us women who are trying hard every day just get treated fairly within our workplaces .
And so having already decided earlier this week following conversations with colleagues close friends family members etcetera …that enough really was enough…here comes today’s announcement confirming what many suspected all along namely :
That even though men earn more than us overall across society generally speaking…it doesn’t mean we deserve less money too !
If anything , maybe now more than ever before ,we need role models demonstrating courage leadership determination resilience determination etcetera…just so others know they aren’t alone fighting battles similar theirselves .
So here goes then :
This week marks seven years since Emily took over hosting duties alongside myself following Jon Snow ’s sudden death .
During those seven years ,we’ve worked side-by-side presenting together regularly throughout weekdays evenings sometimes weekends too !
As far as anyone knows neither party ever complained publicly nor privately about perceived unfairness between ourselves nor indeed amongst other staff members working within our department either .
Yet suddenly without warning last month Ian Katz announced plans were underway immediately publishing detailed comparisons between salaries earned respectively each year since Emily began hosting alongside myself until present day…
And then yesterday morning came news confirming these plans had indeed gone ahead despite protests expressed publicly beforehand including mine own letter sent directly addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed personally addressed directly towards him…
His response ?
He apologised profusely explained reasons behind decision saying he’d acted under instructions received directly from senior management above him…
But still insisted publication would go ahead regardless because transparency demanded otherwise according him…
As if somehow releasing information comparing earnings between two individuals working same role side-by-side would magically make everything better overnight ?
Or perhaps even worse still make matters worse instead ?
What kind message does this send out really ?
One thing seems clear though : whatever happens next surely won’t change fact remains inequality exists throughout society generally speaking particularly affecting women disproportionately compared men…
And so long as this continues we must keep fighting until finally achieve true equality where everyone gets treated fairly regardless gender race religion sexuality disability etcetera…
Until then let’s hope others inspired stories like mine stand up speak out demand change happen faster sooner rather than later !
