Brooklyn Nets Open to Trading 3 Veteran Players
Months after trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks, the Brooklyn Nets appear to be embracing a full rebuild. Following a 32-50 record last season, their worst since 2017-18, the Nets made changes, including firing head coach Jacque Vaughn after 54 games and replacing him with Kevin Ollie as interim coach. Now, as training camp approaches, the team is reportedly still making moves. According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the Nets are open to trading three veteran players: Dennis Schroder, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Bojan Bogdanovic.
The team is also reportedly fielding offers for Cameron Johnson, but they have set a high asking price for the forward.
Dennis Schroder
The Nets acquired Dennis Schroder from the Toronto Raptors before the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline. In 29 games with Brooklyn, Schroder started 25 and averaged 14.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6 assists while shooting 42.4% from the field and 41.2% from beyond the arc. Turning 31 next week, Schroder doesn’t align with the Nets’ rebuilding timeline, and he’s entering the final year of his two-year, $25.4 million contract. Despite this, Schroder has expressed his desire to stay with the team long-term.
“I want to be in Brooklyn long-term,” Schroder said. “I want to be a veteran who shows the young players how to play as a team… It’s going to take time, but I hope Brooklyn sees the same vision.”
Dorian Finney-Smith
Dorian Finney-Smith joined the Nets in the 2023 trade that sent Kyrie Irving to Dallas. In his time with Brooklyn, Finney-Smith has played 96 games, starting in 82, and averaged 8.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on 40.2% shooting. With two years remaining on his contract and a $15.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season, a trade might be mutually beneficial as the forward approaches 32 years old.
Bojan Bogdanovic
Bojan Bogdanovic was part of the trade that sent Mikal Bridges to the Knicks. The 35-year-old veteran, who finished ninth in Sixth Man of the Year voting last season, is on an expiring contract worth $19 million. Although still a valuable contributor, Bogdanovic may be traded before the season starts or by the next trade deadline as the Nets continue to reshape their roster.
With these potential moves, the Brooklyn Nets appear fully committed to building for the future, and trading these veterans could be their next step in that direction.
