Buffon Picks Teammate as Better Than Messi and Ronaldo
Gianluigi Buffon has praised Neymar as the best player he has ever played alongside, stating that the Brazilian “deserved to win five Ballon d’Or awards.”
Throughout his illustrious career with Parma, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and the Italian national team, Buffon has shared the pitch with numerous football legends, but Neymar stands out for the goalkeeper.
Gianluigi Buffon has named Neymar as the best player he’s ever played with, even ahead of legends like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Zinedine Zidane.
Speaking to Corriere della Sera, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper said, “The best player I’ve played with? I’d say Neymar Jr. In my opinion, he deserved to win five Ballon d’Ors. I had the chance to play with Zidane, Ronaldo, Messi, and others, but Ney was really something special—both as a player and as a person.”
Buffon and Neymar were teammates at Paris Saint-Germain, where the Brazilian scored 118 goals in 173 appearances after his record-breaking £198 million move from Barcelona. While Neymar’s time in Paris was marred by injuries and the failure to secure a Champions League or Ballon d’Or, his talent was undeniable.
Neymar left PSG in 2023 to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, though his stint in the Middle East has also been plagued by injuries, with just seven appearances in the last two seasons.
At 32 years old, Neymar is the highest-scoring Brazilian in UEFA Champions League history and the all-time top scorer for the Brazilian national team, having surpassed Pele’s record in September 2023.
