Hugh Keevins reveals his fantasy of Celtic conceding TEN goals in a match.
After a rocky start to the season, Hugh Keevins is back on familiar ground today, entertaining the idea of Celtic conceding TEN goals to Atalanta.
This type of speculation stirs excitement in the veteran broadcaster, who has endured every moment of Celtic’s dominant run in Scottish football. After decades of focusing on the O** F*** rivalry, the shifting landscape of Scottish football has been both challenging and profitable for Keevins, who has embraced his role as the ever-provocative figure in the media.
Three years ago, he delivered a memorable moment with his “Absolutely Not Good Enough” remark, criticizing Celtic’s new manager after his first SPFL match, which was played in front of just 4,000 fans as Scotland emerged from lockdown.
It’s safe to say ANGE Postecoglou has had a far more successful run than Keevins since that headline. In just two years at Celtic, the Australian secured five trophies out of six and outclassed three managers at Ibrox, while Keevins waited for the Aussie’s departure.
In March, Daily Record readers were told that Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t be at Celtic for the 2024/25 season.
Two trophies later, with Celtic closing in on surpassing both Ibrox clubs and boasting nine out of 10 domestic titles, Keevins seems to have shifted his focus to a different kind of fantasy.
In a desperate bid to keep print sales from sinking further, as the Daily Record sees a 17% drop year on year, he presents the following:
“I’m sure there are Celtic supporters of a nervous disposition who dare not voice their deepest fear about Brendan Rodgers’ team in the Champions League. The nagging thought that one day, somewhere, someone will humiliate Celtic by scoring double figures—an unforgettable moment of embarrassment. It almost happened against Borussia Dortmund in Germany, where seven goals seemed like just the beginning. Now, it’s Atalanta, last season’s Europa League winners, on Wednesday night. Rodgers must find a way to avoid a thrashing in Bergamo.”
Despite Keevins’ concerns, Rodgers and Celtic will come through just fine, regardless of what happens on Wednesday.
Perhaps of greater concern to Keevins and Daily Record readers is the delay in publishing the 2024 financial accounts for a club currently without a CEO, Chairman, or Director of Football Operations.
The question lingers: who will be foolish enough to approve the anticipated £20m losses, with this season’s deficit expected to be around £10m? Meanwhile, the Board of Directors remains tucked away in the Blue Room, avoiding any scrutiny.
Back in August 2016, Keevins, alongside his close friend Derek Johnstone, predicted a title win for Mark Warburton. By February, however, Warburton was out, and Celtic had finished the season a staggering 39 points ahead of the Ibrox side.
