Son of Five-Time SPL Champion Joins Celtic

Joshua Mulgrew, son of former Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew, has signed a professional contract with the club.

Celtic announced yesterday that nine Academy talents are making the leap to professional terms, with young Mulgrew among them.

Charlie now transitions from being a former Celtic player to proudly wearing the title of “Dad” to one of the club’s rising prospects.

Joshua Mulgrew’s next challenge will be progressing from the U-18s to Celtic B, who finished sixth in last season’s Lowland League.

Led by Stephen McManus, the Celtic B team will also participate in the UEFA Youth League, adding eight matches to their schedule for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Jonny Hayes has been rumored as a potential addition to Celtic’s coaching staff, working alongside McManus.

As Joshua embarks on his professional career, he’ll have the benefit of a seasoned guide in his father, Charlie, who has seen it all in football.

Charlie’s journey included two stints at Celtic, narrowly missing a breakthrough under Gordon Strachan before spending four years with Wolves, Southend, and Aberdeen. He returned to Celtic in 2010 under Neil Lennon, where he enjoyed six eventful years, collecting five SPL winners’ medals during a period of dominance for the club.

After leaving Celtic, Charlie played for Blackburn, Wigan, and Fleetwood before wrapping up his career with two seasons at Dundee United, retiring a year ago. With that wealth of experience, there’s little Joshua will face that his Dad hasn’t already navigated.
