Victor Osimhen Transfer Update: Blow to Premier League Clubs
Victor Osimhen’s anticipated big-money transfer next year, potentially to the Premier League, now appears uncertain.
The Nigerian striker was at the heart of one of 2024’s most dramatic transfer stories, culminating in a surprising loan move to Galatasaray.
After Napoli appointed Antonio Conte as manager and brought in Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, it seemed clear that Osimhen no longer had a future at the club. When a transfer didn’t materialize by deadline day, he was sidelined from the squad.
Europe’s top clubs hesitated due to his €130 million (£109.5m) release clause, leaving Turkey as one of his few remaining options.

A permanent move in January seemed likely after reports surfaced that Napoli had reduced the release clause to €75m (£63.2m) at Osimhen’s request before his loan to Galatasaray.
Turkish media suggested that only a select group of clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich, could activate the clause.
However, it now appears that Osimhen may stay at Galatasaray for the remainder of the season and potentially beyond. According to Florian Plettenberg, the striker is “currently not planning a winter move.”
Galatasaray are reportedly making “serious efforts” to keep him next summer, with “initial talks” already underway. Osimhen is said to feel “very comfortable” in Istanbul, and the club is exploring creative ways to make the deal permanent. If successful, this could deal a major blow to the Premier League clubs vying for his signature.
Chelsea attempted to sign the 25-year-old before the summer transfer window closed, with The Athletic reporting that they “explored up to seven different structures of a pay deal… without success.”
Liverpool also made a late push to secure Osimhen in the days leading up to deadline day, but Corriere dello Sport suggests they were deterred by his wage demands. Manchester United had been linked with the striker earlier in the year.
Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has been in excellent form, scoring six goals in six Turkish Super Lig appearances and netting a brace against Spurs in the Europa League.
